When listing the most influential bands of the last 50 years it isn’t that often that Fleetwood Mac gets the credit they deserve. Is it so easily forgotten that these guys have some of the most impressive folk/rock/pop albums ever released? Give ‘Rumors’ a listen today and try not to sing every, single, word. Flawless.
To celebrate the band’s 45 years of influence, a terrific covers compilation is being released on August 14th. NPR is streaming the entire collection over at their site and below I have gathered some of the record’s highlights. Pay close attention to the Antony cover of ‘Landslide’ and Best Coast’s rendition of ‘Rhiannon’, as they are absolutely perfect versions. The diversity of this collection is testament to the group’s widespread affect on today’s musicians, ranging from songbirds, St. Vincent & Lykki Li, to dance/chill wave acts, MGMT and Washed Out, and even folk and blues artists, Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy and Billy Gibbons.
Check this out it is awesome!
