So after 3 days of recovering, its about that time. Time to recap my NYE experience into a one page post detailing the awesome event and experience known as Lights All Night. Going into this event, I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect. The last multi stage festival I went to in Dallas was EDC and that didn’t go as well. Over sold, packed, plus stages getting shut down (and fatalities). So one can imagine that any EDM event in Dallas is gonna be on thin ice.
This wasn’t the case with Lights All Night. Upon arriving, you were ushered into multiple rows of lines. What you expected to be a long ass wait actually went by pretty quick. We got wanded down like airport security (which i wasn’t expecting) then after that you were let into the convention center.
We immediately made our way to the Dance Hall to go catch the beginning of Dada Life’s set. I had to see these guys. After all the crazy youtube videos and crazy head thrashing, it would be dumb to miss their set. They opened their set with there new track “Kick out the Epic Mother Fucker” and OOOO’s began to rise from the crowd. More of a fist pump in the air kind of O (see video below).
After Dada Life, we made our way over to check out Archnemesis. After previously opening for these guys a month back, I was pumped to see them again. When we saw them the 1st time, there was about 50 people still at the party so I was stoked to get to see these guys in front of a full crowd. These guys kinda remind me of a more relaxed Pretty Lights. We made it there for the end of their set where they dropped their Niggas in Paris remix. Freakin sweet
This was my first time seeing Laidback Luke live, and all I have to say is AWESOME. I’ve never seen a DJ have so much fun on stage. Plus he actually mixes on stage. Most DJS don’t get close to their decks unless they’re transitioning so its awesome seeing a DJ actually get into his set and show off. He opened up his set with some awesome tracks but towards the end, he decided to shake everyone one up with alittle DUBSTEP.
So overall I think he was probably one of my favorite sets I got to experience. His energy was awesome and everyone seemed to be having an awesome time grooving to his set.
And last but not least was my New Years favorite Zeds Dead. I’ve seen Girl Talk 3 times already so I decided to stay in the Bass Hall for the New Years drop. Zeds Dead is basically just 2 goofy as Canadians that fucking rock. They were going crazy during their entire set and the crowd was loving it. They started the confetti a couple seconds early but that didn’t stop them. I was upfront and literally couldn’t see past my face
Thank you guys for making this one of the best fucking years for electronic music
-Zeds Dead
Basically that quote summarizes it up. This year was a blow up year for electronic music here in the states and Lights All Night is a perfect example. EDM is about people coming together and dancing to the same beat, regardless of who you are or what you’re into. Lights All Night was a huge event and went on flawlessly. Will I be back next year? Most likely. Highland Entertainment did an awesome job and I can’t wait to see the events these guys are gonna put on during the year.
