It’s not every day you stumble upon a track that just calls out to you, but that’s exactly what happened this morning. The artist is ZZ Ward and the track is ‘Criminal’ off of the Criminal EP. ‘Criminal’ is a perfect blend of Soul, Blues, and Hip Hop that reaches into your heart and tickles it. Her voice is haunting and rich. Her voice reminds me of a Hip Hop Adele. ‘Criminal’ also features rapper Freddie Gibbs. He brings his street-savvy vernacular with a verse that compliments the track.
‘Criminal’ being such a great track it doesn’t surprise me that Com Truise decided to remix it. Com Truise who proclaims his style as “mid-fi synth-wave, slow-motion funk” couldn’t be a better match for this track. In my opinion, Com Truise is able to deftly make this track his and create a uniquely different track. I’ve included the Original version of ‘Criminal’ and the Com Truise Remix.
